BAILY Andrew Thomas passed away on December 23, 2011 at the Foothills hospital at the age of 102 years. Tom, as he was better know, was born on October 2, 1909 in Lothair district, Manitoba. Both his dear son Alan and beloved wife Edith (nee Vickery) predeceased him as well as his brother and 4 sisters. He will be dearly missed by his four grandchildren Rhonda Somchur (Keith), Gerald Baily (Jacqui), Alanna Stettler (Bill), and Alison Baily (Mike Bouvette), his daughter-in-law Irene, 12 great grandchildren, as well as 2 great, great grand children. Living for more than a century, Tom is also survived by 2 nephews Alan and James Ross and 3 nieces Mary Ross, Marj McIntyre, and Shirley Hunt; 12 great nieces and nephews; 19 great great nieces and nephews; 2 great great great nieces; a second cousin, and 5 third cousins. As a young man, Tom’s first job at the age of 16 was working as a cook for a logging camp in Northern Ontario. But for the majority of his life he was a carpenter by trade in the construction industry. Tom had a zest for life and at any time you might find him fishing, gardening, canning fruit and vegetables, enjoying lapidary, camping, baking tea biscuits, helping his neighbours or sharing a story about his early life experiences on the prairies and in Ontario. He was a fine story-teller with a keen memory for events, people, places, and exact dates. He and his wife Edith have lived in Chatham, Ontario; Red Deer, Alberta; and Kelowna, British Columbia. Tom also lived for a time in Pincher Creek and Okotoks before finally returning to Calgary in his late 90s. His friends and family will always remember his kind manners and what a generous and gracious host he was. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, December 30, 2011 at Pierson’s Forest Lawn Chapel (4121 17 Avenue SE) at 11:00am with Visitation prior, Interment to follow at Mountain View Memorial Gardens.
