Andrea Nagy

Andrea Nagy nee Andrea (Zsűli) Szikszay passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Thursday, February 15, 2024 at the age of 79 years.  Andrea was born in Kassa, Hungary on February 27, 1944.

She will be lovingly remembered by the love of her life, Paul Nagy; by her daughters, Krisztina (Christopher) Horn and Susanna (Matthew) Wright; and by her beloved grandchildren: Marcus and Lucas Horn, and Walter and Margaret Wright.  She was predeceased by her parents Pál and Erzsébet Szikszay. 

Andrea and Paul immigrated from Hungary via an Italian refugee camp to Calgary, Alberta, Canada in 1979, where they would raise their two daughters and Andrea spent her remaining years.

Andrea held many jobs in both Hungary and Canada, but she took great pride in working as a doctor's assistant - especially in her later years where she would bond with her health care team.

Andrea also found great joy in caring for and admiring flowers. There wasn’t a day that you would step into her home without her showing you her latest gorgeous bloom.  She was also an amazing cook who could whip up any Hungarian dish from memory.  Anyone who had the pleasure of enjoying one of her tasty meals would certainly agree.  In her spare time, Andrea loved to read, do crossword puzzles, watch tv, keep in touch with friends and family through facebook, and reminisce about her childhood.  Most recently, what brought her the greatest joy was bragging about her four beautiful grandchildren: there wasn’t a person who met her who didn’t know about them.

She will be deeply missed by her loving family, by her friends, and by all those who had the pleasure of meeting her.

A funeral service will be held for Andrea at Pierson's Forest Lawn Chapel (4121 - 17 Avenue SE, Calgary) on Tuesday, February 27, 2024 at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alberta Children’s Hospital.
