Alice Dorozio (nee Slett) has gone to Heaven to be with Jesus, peacefully, at 98 years old, in Langley, B.C.
Predeceased by her first husband Louis Slett, sons Larry, Timmy and Randy, husband Fennell Dorozio, step daughter Donna Evans.
Alice is survived by her children Ron (Margaret), Gerry, Rick (Marilyn), step children David (Donna), Kathleen (Brian), Matthew (Marilyn), Paul (Janice), Louise (Jerry), Ben, Lisa (lan) and a multitude of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Alice was born in Vancouver and became a ward of the court, along with her brothers Jackie and Leroy. She survived foster care, during the Depression, and lived in over 40 foster homes in Vancouver and the Lower Mainland. Alice took secretarial training and met and married her first husband through her job as a secretary. Five sons followed and Alice lived a pioneer life in the Smithers/Telqua and Terrace areas of Northern BC. Alice raised her sons with no running water, and chopped wood to heat their home. The family moved to Surrey where Randy, her youngest son, was born. Alice made friends with everyone around her. She was an amazing knitter, crocheter and homemaker. Many, many babies have been wrapped in one of mom's beautiful creations. She even knit socks for the men fighting in World War 2.
After losing her first husband, and neighbor Fen's wife Eva passed away, Fen and Alice became friends and married in 1972, blending two large families to become a family of 12 children. They lived in Surrey for a few years, and then moved to Calgary in 1976 with Rick, Ben, Randy and Lisa, to start a new life in boom-town Alberta. In Calgary, Alice enjoyed many years of family, friends, and a rich church life. Her faith in God kept her strong. Alice was a gracious hostess and a friend to all. She opened her home to anyone who needed a friendly space and a meal. Alice and Fen spent many hours in the motorhome exploring the sites and fishing holes of Alberta with family and friends. They especially loved taking any grandchild out in the motorhome to run around in the mountains or fish at the river. Alice and Fen spent about 17 years working on the farm in Saskatchewan, helping the Koroluk family with harvest. The prairie years were a rich, fulfilling time in Alice's life, she made many deep, long lasting friendships, and her kindness and sweet nature was felt by countless people.
They moved to Langley Seniors Village in their 80s and enjoyed an active social life in their new home. Alice was the first and longest resident of LSV. Everyone loved her, staff and residents alike. Fen and Alice started and maintained a garden of flowers and herbs, which is now named the 'Alice' garden. The beautiful gardens are now a place of tranquility because of Alice's skill and love for flowers. Alice also started a knitting club, and a bible club, and was friends to everyone in LSV. Her last residence was at Langley Lodge where she received loving and tender care until the end of her life. She is now at peace in Heaven.
Alice loved her family and cherished any time that was spent together. She cooked many fantastic meals, and always had a knitting or crochet project on the go for someone. We will miss her bright smile, sweet nature and warm hugs. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity in your region that supports Children and Youth in Care.
