Alice Edna Broadhurst (née Bigelow), passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2026 at the age of 90.
She is survived by her Sister Eva (Frank) of Chemainus, BC; her very good friend, John Langlois; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Douglas Broadhurst; friend, Harry Johnson; mother and father, Emma and Ed Bigelow, of Crossfield, Alberta; and 9 brothers, Bill of Sundre, Alberta, Archie, Ernest, Leslie of Calgary, Alberta, Walter of Violet Grove, Alberta, Sidney of White Rock, BC, Gordon of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Roy, of Olds, Alberta, Richard of Kamloops, BC; two sisters, Violet Dolphin of Calgary, Alberta and Florence Walker, of Crossfield, Alberta, as well as nieces and nephews and extended family.
When Alice was in grade 3, the family moved to Sundre, Alberta where she started school at MacDougall Flats, Alberta. At the age of 17, Alice, moved to Calgary, where she did some child care for a few years before going to Calgary technology School for a Hotel Management course. She returned to Sundre to work at the Sundre Hotel Cafe. In 1957, she returned to Calgary and started working at AGT, now Telus, from 1957 until 1987. Alice travelled during her first years of retirement. A highlight was going to the Rosebowl Parade in 1988 plus travelling to England, Scotland, Ireland, Caribbean and Alaska. Her travels took her to many of the states in the US and she visited Vegas many times.
Alice liked to play Bingo and to play the casino. In 2010 she sold her home in the Dover area and took up Condo living and for the past few years lived at Mickkelson house where she made many new friends. Here she met John in 2014 and often said, she had never met anyone so kind. She loved her life at this time, attending many special dinners and gatherings at Mickkelson House.
In recent years, Alice spent her time at Saint Teresa‘s place where she lived her best life participating in daily activities and embraced her social life with her warm smiles and was deeply cared for by the amazing staff.
Alice ensured that she kept in touch with family members, sending Christmas and Birthday cards or by phoning them. A highlight was meeting family members in her favourite cafe, "Eggs and More", to celebrate a birthday or a special occasion. In her younger years, a dinner in her home was always on the agenda to get the family together.
Alice will be remembered for her kindness, her honesty and generosity. She was always there to offer help to anyone in need. Alice cherished her friends and when she made friends, they remained friends for life. Never was there a better sister...
