Anni Margarethe Erika Sorensen

July 30, 1940 — May 30, 2020

Anni Margaretha Erika Sorensen passed away May 30, 2020 in Calgary.

Anni was born to Ludwig and Margarethe Relke July 30, 1940 in Bad Wildungen, Germany.

Anni met her first husband Walter in Germany where he was stationed with the Canadian Armed Forces regiment, Queen’s Own Rifles. They were married in 1960 in Germany and arrived in Canada September of that same year.

As a widow Anni discovered love a second time, John was the love of her life and the two married in 1996 and spent many happy years together with their feline children, working and hauling heavy equipment across North America after Anni got her Class 1 license at the age of 55.

Anni was always involved in helping others and volunteering in her community (Griffiths Centre-Black Diamond Alberta).

Anni was loved dearly by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren who always came first for her. While looking after all 4 grandchildren in the mid 80’s the folks at the grocery store referred to her as mother goose and her ducklings. She loved to knit and crochet, the family has sweaters, afghan blankets, Christmas doily’s, scarves and more, all made with love. Anni’s recipes for roast beef, and her famous much coveted potato salad, lasagna, peanut butter cookies and many more have been passed down by her daughter and sons to their children.

Anni is preceded in death by (Walter) husband, (John), husband, (James) son.

Anni is survived by (Carole Anni/Joe) daughter, (Ronnie/Angie) son, (Cindy/Joe) daughter in law, (Charlotte) sister, grandchildren Cinda (Chris), Nick (Ashley), Evee, Troy, Tyler (Robin), great-grandchildren Mason and Lily, with a third expected to make her arrival soon.

Anni is survived by sister in laws, brother in laws, nieces and nephews in Ontario, B.C, and Germany, all of whom she loved throughout her life.

The family will be holding a Celebration of Life for Anni in the summer of 2021.
