As President of Pierson's Funeral Service, Michael Pierson is dedicated to carrying on the family tradition of quality, professional service and fair pricing. More importantly, he understands the needs of the families they serve and has an organization that works to anticipate all your needs and works to look after each request, no matter how small.
With the growth of the family business, Pierson’s Funeral Services has added wonderful staff to their working group. Each is dedicated to their duties and brings a wealth of hard work, knowledge, professionalism and compassion. These individuals are more than just great funeral director's, they are valuable members of the community. They attend church regularly, serve in leadership roles, volunteer in community organizations, play on sports teams and contribute to the strong fabric of our community.

Michael J. Pierson, BMS – President
Michael Pierson was born and raised in Calgary. He was one of the seven Pierson children to attend Viscount Bennett Jr. & Sr. High Schools. He then attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah where he studied Music and Business. In 1986 he transferred to the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science at Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio and graduated with a Bachelors of Mortuary Science (cum laud) in 1987. He had training and experience in funeral homes in Utah and Ohio while attending University prior to returning to Calgary in 1988 to join the family firm. Michael has always shown leadership characteristics as well as being community and service minded. In High School he served as Class President and more recently served as the President of the International Avenue Business Revitalization Zone, an organization which has done significant work to improve the business district in the Forest Lawn area of Calgary. Michael also served on the Executive Council of the Alberta Funeral Service Association for eight years including a term as President. Currently Michael is the Chairman of the International Avenue Arts and Culture Centre. Michael has an active Church life and loves to spend time with his wife Kathleen and their sons Eric and Connor. Michael loves his work at the funeral home. He loves helping families who need our services and is proud of the good reputation and solid business the family has built.
Rose Lynn (Pierson) Root– Flower Shop Manager
Rose Lynn was born and raised in Calgary, the second oldest of the seven Pierson children. Although Rose Lynn has not been trained in Funeral Service, she has been raised in the shadow of her parents Ches & Joan Pierson and has learned the importance of serving families when a loved one has died. Rose Lynn has contributed her talents and hard work from the incorporation of the business in 1983, initially with the building and furnishing of our building as well as sewing the drapes with her mother Joan. Rose Lynn has also had many other roles in the company, clerical support, as an organist, general helper and for the past many years as florist and manager of our floral shop. Rose Lynn is married to Mayne Root and is proud that two of their four children are involved in the family business, David as General Manager in the funeral home and Rebecca "Becky" Walker, who works in the flower shop. Rose Lynn also loves being a grandmother to 5 grandchildren.
David Root – General Manager
David is a grandson of owner and founder of Pierson's Funeral Service, Ches & Joan Pierson. David was exposed to the family funeral business from and early age and is proud to continue the family business into another generation. David graduated from Lester B Pearson High School (Honours) and then served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Southern California returning home and joining the family business. At first, his intentions were to pursue a career in pharmacy, but recognized his love for funeral service and changed programs at Mount Royal, graduating with a general Arts & Sciences Certificate as well as Funeral Director and Embalmer Extension Certificate. David is married and he and his wife are expecting twins in late spring 2011. David has officially been with Pierson's since 2005 and serves as our General Manager and Funeral Director.
Patricia Vickerman – Office Manager
Patricia Vickerman was born in Calgary and raised in Cochrane. Pat has 17 years of senior administrative experience with 13 years of service in the funeral profession. She has worked with customized software and has implemented strategies to improve business efficiency. With Pat's knowledge, dedication and experience, Pierson's Funeral Service provides the most beautiful memorial folders and other funeral stationery available. She also oversees an incredibly efficient and productive office. Pat is a licensed funeral director and demonstrates a high degree of respect and compassion for our families as they deal with very difficult circumstances. Pat lives with her husband Terry and has three children Andrew, Jeff and Pamela.
Dale Wright – Licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer
Dale was born and raised in Taber, Alberta graduating from W.R.Myers High School in 2001. Dale's interest in funeral service began when his father died when he was only 5 years old, and in successive years as his grandparent's passed away while he assisted in planning their funerals. Dale served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Southern California for 2 years and upon returning home in 2005, he moved to Calgary where he obtained work at a funeral home, attended the Mount Royal Program, graduating and becoming licensed in 2008. Dales loves spending time with his wife Sandra and their two daughters. Dale joined Pierson's in 2008 and currently serves as a funeral director and embalmer.
Keith Jungwirth – Licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer
Keith is a native of Cudworth, Saskatchewan where he graduated from the Cudworth High School. Keith is a graduate of the Mount Royal College Funeral Director Embalmer program in 2006 and became a licensed funeral director and embalmer the following year. He joined Pierson's in November of 2006 and currently manages our Customer Care Area and oversees all embalming.
Janine Lawrence – Licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer
Janine comes from Clandonald, Alberta where her family has been living for years. She graduated from St. Jerome's Separate School in 2004 and entered Mount Royal University in 2008. Janine graduated from the MRU program the following year and became licensed as a funeral director in November of 2009 and in embalming in January of 2010. Janine joined Pierson's in 2009 and currently serves as a funeral director and embalmer.
